The Corso Umberto, Taormina's main street, stretches about one kilmetre from one old town gate to the other, from Porta Catania to Porta Messina. The street is wonderful, with its beautiful churches, restaurants, cafes, piazzas, stone arches, and a wide array of shops from the affordable to the designer, selling art, souvenirs, ceramics and Sicilian specialities. The Corso is bustling and full of atmosphere. You can expect to see anything from locals walking their dogs to newly-wed couples.
Ideal to wander in the evening and listen to the live music from the bars, look over the balustrade down to the sea and along the bay. It is very touristy but not tacky.
Stop at the Luraleo Bar or at the Wunderbar, relax and have a coffee, drink or ice cream. The Corso is one of the best places ever for people watching - the whole world walks by.
