We found the Al Fondaco del Conte while strolling through one of the markets of Palermo. It welcomes you in a homely and informal environment, furnished in chic and minimalist style. It was summer and all customers were foreign tourists, what makes us usually go somewhere else. But the kindness of the smiling staff made us sit down. Best decision ever! The menu of the day offered a wide choice of dishes, both meat and fish. The chef came to the table to introduce himself and to describe dishes including appetizers, first and second in all the details. The food reflects the traditional cuisine of Palermo, sometimes taking a cue from Granny's recipies.
We loved every bite of the bass with zucchini and tomatoes. Also delicious: the mussel soup and the swordfish rolls with citrus.
